"Sourav Ganguly has been dropped as captain of kolkata knightriders for IPL2009" said coach John Buchanan.
He said there would be multiple captains in the team,and he added the decision of having multiple captains has nothing to do with Ganguly's performance or fitness and denied any rift in the team.
Earlier there were rumours that Buchanan wanted to axe Ganguly as captain, but later Buchanan made it clear that there's no rift in between them.

“Chris Gayle (West Indies), Brendon McCullum (New Zealand) and Ganguly will all captain KKR. There will be a nominated captain for each game," he said
Reacting to this formula,Ganguly said "its new and we have to try new everytime".
He attempted to put up a brave face and said he was not upset with the decision.
